At Baker School, we are always striving to improve our school/home communication. We recognize a welcoming environment for visitors to the school is critical. To foster this, we hold monthly informal PTA social gatherings which parents and school staff attend. We also arrange for translators for parents who do not speak English. Additionally, we hold a special "welcome-back-to-school" event at the beginning of the school year. We work to keep the communication open with parents by: 1. Identifying strengths and weaknesses in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. 2. Establishing a clear understanding of academic areas where the student is progressing and any areas where the student is not making adequate progress. 3. Providing parents with samples of work that reflect their child's progress. 4. Identifying the level of the student's participation and contribution to group work and cooperative assignments. 5. Providing specific expectations for what parents are to do at home to help.6.Taking time to listen to parents about their child.
