Elmcrest Elementary continues to strive to improve communication with families and increase parent involvement. Through Title I money, Elmcrest added a Parent Involvement Facilitator to the staff and created a parent room. Several classes were offered for parents this year including “How to Read Aloud to your Child” and “Smart Shopping” presented by the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. School staff communicates with families through newsletters, ConnectEd phone messages, conferences, music programs, family movie nights and game nights, and special events. Elmcrest has several bilingual staff members to help foster communications with Spanish speaking families. Classroom teachers use various methods to communicate with families such as; weekly newsletters, e-mail, progress reports, and phone calls. The Elmcrest PFA is instrumental in promoting communication and parent involvement. We have been able to increase the number of volunteers working in our school and the number of families attending school events, though parent involvement continues to be a focus for further improvement.
