Hafen Elementary School communicates with parents through personal contact and a welcoming atmosphere, along with flyers and reminder notes sent home, posters, intercom announcements, teacher notes, email, telephone and ConnectEd messages. The school also has a terrific website that is updated on a frequent basis and a colorful outside marquee (at the intersection nearest the school parking lots) that posts current events. Parents are included on key committees.Hafen hosts an Open House the first week of September, as well as an early Orientation Night prior to the first day of school for parents new to Hafen and for those who have kindergarten students. Special events throughout the school year bring in standing room only crowds.Parents are invited and encouraged to become volunteers, to support their students, and to join an active PTO at Hafen. Parents often set up special conferences outside of scheduled times to meet with teachers and/or the principal. Time is allowed for every issue to be heard, and every effort is made to find a resolution.
