All correspondence is sent home in English and Spanish and there are several available Spanish speaking staff members on hand to answer questions and take phone calls. To remind parents of upcoming events, minimum days, parent/teacher conferences, etc. we utilize the instant phone messenger service as well as a school calendar given to each family at the beginning of the school year. Additionally, surveys are sent home for parents to give input on important matters for our school. Parent/teacher conferences are held twice a year where teacher and parent can meet face to face and discuss the successes and concerns of his/her child.
We have a Title I, part C migrant assistant who meets with parents to encourage early literacy skills. The Title I coordinator and homeroom teachers meet with parents and encourage them to participate nightly in student reading homework.
Our 100 Book Challenge Program encourages student to read at their independent level every day and have parents sign a reading log. Student successes are celebrated once a month in an assembly with dignitaries presenting the reading medals to the children. Their pictures are placed in the newspaper.
