Southside cooperates with and supports a number of community based organizations that provide services for students and parents. Boys and Girls Club of Elko is housed at Southside and serves approximately 100 children daily. Evening adult English classes are offered by Great Basin College at Southside. The Police Athletic League offers children’s basketball and volleyball leagues. The Juvenile Probation Department has a mentoring presence in the 4th grade and offers a specialized class called the 7 Habits Program for the 4th graders. Also, Communities in Schools works in the school through a Parent Liaison position which is designed to bolster parent involvement. All of these programs are examples of the community based culture of Southside Elementary.
