Parental involvement and communication are integral components of Hughes Middle School. Every other month, a school newsletter is sent home highlighting curricular and extra-curricular school events. On the school web site, parents have access to the monthly newsletter, calendared events, the daily video announcements via podcasts, and staff e-mail addresses. Parents are invited to attend various activities and performances at the school throughout the year such as Open House, fine arts performances, athletic events, and monthly Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings. Hughes Middle School has established numerous partnerships with community members and businesses. Several volunteers, including many parents, do daily one-on-one reading tutoring with identified students. Parents are able to access ParentLink on-line, a web-based program designed to communicate class progress and attendance information. There is a parent literacy night held once a month where parents are taught different strategies in math and English. Teachers and parents can communicate via e-mail through the InterAct e-mail system. All classrooms are equipped with telephones, enabling teachers and parents to communicate directly.
