Monthly newsletters are provided in Spanish and English with information about school news, improvement goals, student achievement, and school events. The Detwiler PTO meets on a regular basis and parent volunteers have participated in assisting with student learning. Monthly parent meetings are held to provide information about school curriculum, classroom instruction, and student achievement. The Parent Empowerment Team was developed to provide in-depth training of strategies to use at home to support learning. In addition, Rosetta Stone classes were held to support non-English speaking parents in learning English. ParentLink classes were also held. Parents attended school events such as open house, family academic night, carnival, fine arts fair, Muffins with Moms and Donuts with Dads, talent show, field day, and kindergarten round-up. Parents are encouraged to check out LeapPads from the school library to use with their children at home to help students master grade level objectives in reading and mathematics.
