Communication
At Dean Petersen Professional Development School, all communication was sent home in English and Spanish. The teachers and staff used ParentLink, e-mail, newsletters, and progress reports to communicate with parents and/or guardians. Three Family Academic Nights focusing on math, reading, and science were held throughout the year. Each grade level invited parents to a training that provided activities families could use to reinforce skills at home. The Parent Center sent home bi-monthly newsletters which addressed upcoming events, information about curriculum, and parenting advice. Students, parents, and teachers were surveyed to determine areas of strengths and concerns. The results of the survey were provided to parents. Our Parent Center provided parents with skills to support their children in the academic programs at school. In addition, adult classes for learning English, computer skills, and parenting skills were held at the school site.
