Newsletters are sent to parents on a monthly basis to provide information about school news, student achievement, and school activities. In addition, ParentLink is updated monthly to include school events. The Whitney website is updated monthly, as well. Meetings are held with parents on an on-going basis to provide information about the school curriculum, classroom instruction, and student achievement. Some examples include Back to School Fair, Family Literacy Night, and monthly Cookies and Chat with the Principal. Parents volunteer throughout the school year in a variety of capacities, including Holiday Shop, Fall Festival, field trips, chaperones, classroom helpers, office assistance, packing weekend food bags, and organizing clothing and supplies. Efforts to improve parent involvement include the following activities: monthly Cookies and Chat, monthly parenting classes, General Education Diploma classes, weekly state unemployment assistance, monthly Breakfast with Books Family Literacy Program, Kids to Kids Family Literacy Program, student agendas, Tuesday News envelopes, Parent/Student, Teacher Academic Planning Time, and ParentLink.
