Open House activities provided parents with opportunities to interact with staff, establish relationships and clarify academic, behavior and attendance expectations for the new school year. Teachers maintained ongoing communication related to academic progress, behavior and attendance through personal contact, telephone calls home and progress reports. In December, parent conferences allowed time for teachers and parents to share academic progress data, discuss concerns and set goals. Two attendance monitors provided parents with daily communication regarding attendance expectations through letters and phone contact regarding absence and tardy concerns. Parents were provided with a variety of classes, including Parenting Wisely, Nutrition, English as a Second Language and Computer Literacy. Classroom teachers designed monthly bilingual Title One parent meetings to teach parents how to become partners in their children's academic progress by extending learning activities into the home. School newsletters provided news and information regarding school activities in both English and Spanish.
