Scherkenbach Elementary School has encouraged parent communication and involvement by inviting parents and families to take an active role in their children's learning. This has been evidenced through monthly newsletters, use of ParentLink, parent/teacher conferences, frequent progress reports and parent/family volunteers facilitating "Sight Word Soldiers". School-sponsored community events included the following: PTA meetings, Open House, Harvest Festival, Breakfast with Santa, book exchanges, Family Art and Academic Night, field day activities, DARE, Nevada Reading Week activities, staff/student basketball games, talent show, food drives, Jump Rope for Heart, 5th grade Wax Museum and Pastries with Parents.
