Communication
Open communication begins with Open House the Friday before school starts where parents, teachers, and students become acquainted as students and parents learn about the classrooms. Kindergarten teachers invite parents to attend a separate orientation to help transition children into school. Parent conferences are held in December, and parents are always welcome to visit classrooms, attend field trips, and volunteer. Academic progress reports, with space for parent comments and signature, are sent home every 3 weeks. Grades are updated regularly on ParentLink, an electronic communication tool (grades 1-5). Parents may access student grades through the Internet or telephone any time. ParentLink is used to sendmated telephone calls as needed to announce events and news. A bi-monthly newsletter includes a calendar of events and information from the principal and PTA. Teachers from each grade level participate in PTA, working with parents to provide opportunities to students. A school website provides additional information for parents, and some teachers maintain individual web pages to communicate with students and parents. Teachers provide parents with e-mail addresses and voicemail numbers to maintain open communication.
