The staff at Joseph Neal Elementary School promoted meaningful communication with parents, families, and the community. A weekly newsletter, the Mustang News, was sent home each Friday. Parents and teachers communicated through e-mail, telephone, the school website, and progress reports. In addition, ParentLink was implemented to allow for the dissemination of current school information and student academic progress. Families participated in the Back to School Night BBQ in August. During Literacy Night in October, parents and students enjoyed reading activities, including Bingo for Books. Library Nights were held every other Wednesday throughout spring, offering parents the opportunity to read with their children at school. Parents learned about ParentLink during the Pastries with Parents event in March. Parents also attended a single gender informational meeting in March. Parent/Student/Teacher Academic Planning Time(PSTAPT) in December provided an opportunity to discuss academic progress and plans for increasing student achievement. The Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) encouraged parent participation in the Back to School Celebration, Holiday Workshop, D.A.R.E. graduation, and Spring Carnival.
