At Manuel J. Cortez Elementary School, all communication was sent home in both English and Spanish. The newsletter addressed current and upcoming events, information pertaining to the community, curriculum and parenting tips. The school website was available to keep the school community updated of important information and individual class assignments. ParentLink was used to remind parents of important issues and events in English and Spanish. PTO meetings were held monthly. Parents, families and school staff worked collectively, organizing community and school events. The Irene Espinoza Parent Center was open daily during school hours and was available for parents to check out materials, get assistance on how to help with their children's homework and participate in various classes. Additionally, adult English classes and computer programs for learning English were available through the Parent Center. From the office staff to administration, Cortez ES had the advantage of bilingual staff, trained to work collaboratively with parents to improve our students' attendance, behavior and achievement.
