Ulis Newton E. S. encourages parent communications by inviting parents to be actively involved in volunteering in their child's classroom. Parents serve on a variety of school committees including the School Improvement Team, School Generated Funds committee, and library. Parent volunteer appreciation ceremonies are conducted annually to acknowledge involvement in the classroom. Teachers send home academic and behavioral progress reports every one to two weeks and request parent feedback, as well as post grades on ParentLink. In 2nd through 5th grades, students use a school-supplied agenda book to record daily assignments and notes from school to home. Parent, Student, Teacher Academic Planning Time sessions are conducted at the request of any of the involved parties and at a specified time during the school year. A monthly newsletter informs parents of school news, student achievement and activities.
