Douglas County School District considers parent communication essential to student achievement.  Recognizing the importance of maintaining open two-way communication with our parents and community at large we have the following in place:

  • On-line access to student information for parents, student progress reports, district and site family involvement teams
  • Individual career/academic counseling for all middle and high school students
  • Flexible evening conferences, school and class newsletters, district and site Web pages
  • 6th grade student-led conferences at all elementary schools
  • Family involvement nights which target math, science, reading, language arts, and ELL families
  • Parent/community volunteer training
  • Community and parent tutors
  • Back to School Nights
  • Personal Education Plans (PEPs) which involve student, parent, and teachers for remediation and acceleration
  • Parent resource guides and education nights throughout the school year
  • Parent accords
  • Community partnerships
  • Annual parent surveys
  • Translation services available
  • Parent representation on Strategic Plan, School Improvement Plans (SIPs), and District Improvement Plan (DIP) teams
