Churchill County School District (CCSD) values family engagement and commitment. CCSD is communicating with more parents each year in helping us plan and deliver our services for students. The district is made up of one early childhood learning center, four grades 1-6 elementary, one grades 7-8 junior high, and one grades 9-12 high school. CCSD’s website displays its’ information and many activities. This year we have been piloting a Facebook page that is receiving wide distribution, and positive feedback from students, families, businesses and staff. Student led conferences continue to be expanded and deepened with parent-to-parent occurring.
CCSD’s Northside Early Learning Center encourages parent involvement with Meet the Teacher and Parent Night events, Pumpkin Patch Days, Fall into Literacy Night, Community Canned Food Drive, Valentine Extravaganza, 100th Day of School Celebration, Dr. Seuss Read Across America Celebration, Naval Air Station (NAS) annual Picnics, and an End of the Year Celebration. Plans are being made to expand our Head Start program for 2010-2011.
CCSD’s elementary schools hold events such as: Lattin Farms’ Chili Dinner Night, Christmas Program, Fun Family Carnival, Multi-Cultural Night, Student Talent Show and MAPS (Measures of Academic Progress) Parent Workshops. Each school improvement team published an approved School Improvement Plan online. CCSD often employs a mass calling system to reach all parents. It also provides communication to parents and community through monthly newsletters, email, and telephone. Parent/teacher conferences are held regularly. State testing and any additional notices are mailed. Some schools conduct Quarterly Award Assemblies recognizing students.
At CCSD’s secondary schools (junior and high school), parents may view his/her students’ grades, absences, and performance through the student data program PowerSchool. Blackboard Connect is anmated calling service which allows all-parent calling to disseminate important information. CCSD holds an annual Parent/Teacher Open House each fall. Each year, we have an Academic Awards night as well as annual Scholarship Awards to honor students and parents for reaching high achievements.
All school administrators are trained on emergency preparedness, and utilize newsletters and mass notification technology to strengthen communication with our communities.
