Mission Statement |

The mission of Steptoe Valley High School (SVHS)is to provide a positive, meaningful learning experience for students who have not been successful in traditional school settings. We are committed to providing a learning experience that is student centered, conducive to safe and supportive learning, academically comprehensive, educationally sensitive to the varied learning styles of all students, and emotionally and socially nurturing to all participants in the learning process. We strive to create an environment where students are empowered to take ownership in the process of attaining their educational goals. |

SVHS is an alternative educational facility for individuals having difficulty being successful in a general education environment. The nature of the program ensures all students can be successful.- Candidates can earn their high school diploma oradult high school diploma.
- The computer-based curriculum is supplemented by an on-site licensedteacher.
- Students are able to work at their own pace, with instruction tailored to meet individual needs.
- Many students move to adult education to earn their GED. These students are success storieseven though theywill appear statistically as dropouts.
- The average daily student to adult ratio is 6:1
- Students may complete any of three LabVolt modules, which provide a hands-on introduction to technology based industries.
- The school operates on a 4-day school week, from 8 am to 3:45 pm, Monday through Thursday.
- Supplemental learning experiences are provided by the WPCSD School to Careers coordinator and the NNRPDP regional trainer.
- With the addition of a half-time teacher, Steptoe Valley High School was able to add Spanish language instruction this year.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 All students at Steptoe Valley High School will demonstrate an increase in test scores in reading, math and science.
Objective(s): As measured by the HSPE, March and July, 2009, the number of students meeting or exceeding proficiency will rise • 10% in mathematics • 5% in English/language arts• 10% in science
Goal 2 All students at SVHS will improve their writing skills, especially in the areas of topic development and research.
Objective(s): The number of students meeting or exceeding proficiency in writing will increase by 10%, as measured by ongoing formative assessments and the HSPE.
Goal 3 Students at Steptoe Valley High School will increase problem solving skills, especially in the area of mathematics.
Objective(s): Students at Steptoe Valley High School will improve problem solving skills, demonstrating application of strategies to real world situations, especially in the area of mathematics, as measured by monthly formative assessments.
