The Class of 2009 made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English Language Arts and mathematics under No Child Left Behind! Two disaggregated groups exceeded state and district levels in math.- Two hundred fifteen students were recognized as Academic Scholars (3.75+ GPA) at the Excellence in Academics Night.
- The NVHS “focus on the freshman” resulted in a 33% decrease in failure rate in the core academic classes.
- NVHS Seniors presented their interdisciplinary senior research projects to parents, staff and community members.
- National Air Force Headquarters recognized the NVHS ROTC program as its "Distinguished Junior ROTC Unit”.
- Dylan Byrne and the Web Design Team placed first at state Skills USA and FBLA competitions respectively.
- Sarah Kelley made All-State in choir and was selected to perform with the American Choral Director’s Association.
- Megan Stricker made All-State in band and was also recognized as a northern Nevada NIAA Top 10 Student Athlete.
- Cole Delladio and Jordan Dubron represented NVHS at the State Championships in swimming and skiing respectively.
- Senior Ben Ewing and Government teacher, Mr. Tim Hoover, received the Channel 4 “Excellence in Education Award”.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 All students, with emphasis on our IEP and LEP students, will increase literacy skills, particularly vocabulary skills.
Objective(s): Increase the number of all students proficient in reading by 5% as measured by the HSPE given in April 2009.
Increase the number of 11th grade IEP and LEP students proficient in math by 10% as measured by the HSPE given in April 2009.
Goal 2 All students, with emphasis on our IEP and LEP students, will increase problem solving skills in math.
Objective(s): Increase the number of students proficient in math by 2.5% as measured by the HSPE given in April 2009.
Increase the number of 11th grade IEP and LEP students proficient in math by 10% as measured by the HSPE given in April 2009.
Goal 3 Through effective communication with parents, student pass rates will increase.
Objective(s): 100% of NVHS faculty will post grades on Edline to increase communication with parents regarding progress in classes. 100% of NVHS faculty will place students in jeopardy of failing his/her class on academic contract.
