The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community. |

In 2008-2009, SSHS attained many outstanding and noteworthy achievements in the areas of academics, athletics and activities. A few of the major highlights are listed below.- SSHS was designated as a High Achieving School on the AdequateYearly Progress report by the State Department of Education.
- One of our graduating seniors was selected as one of 142 seniors nationwide as a U.S. Presidential Scholar.
- Twenty-two graduating seniors were selected as Nevada Silver Scholars based on high SAT/ACT scores and cumulative GPAs.
- The ROTC Program was designated as an Honor Unit with Distinction, for the eighth consecutive year.
- The school's Rifle Team won its third consective Nevada State Championship title; its fourth in the past five years.
- The SSHS Wrestling, Boys' Golf and Girls' Softball Teams won Northern Nevada 4-A Regional Championship titles.
- Our school's Academic Olympic Team placed Third in the the Regional Academic Olympic Tournament, behind Reno and Manogue.
- Four of our school's counselors received their National Board Certifications in Counseling.
- Boys' Golf Team captured its second consecutive State 4-A Championship title.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Increase Math Proficiency among all student groups to meet or exceed the Nevada State benchmarks for AYP.
Objective(s): The number of of students in each subgroup who pass the Math HSPE on the first attempt will increase by 5% per year.
Continue to follow the recommendations and directions of the SSHS Math Advisory Committee for math curriculum enhancement and expanded student learning.
Goal 2 Increase Literacy reading and writing proficiency among all student groups to meet or exceed State benchmark for AYP.
Objective(s): The number of students in each subgroup who pass the ELA HSPE on the first attempt will increase by 5% per year. Continue to work at increasing student Literacy in reading and writing through the Sustained Silent Reading, Accelerated Reader and Read 180 programs.
Goal 3 Continue to increase and enhance parent and community participation, involvement and communication with SSHS.
Objective(s): Continue to work at increasing parent and community partnerships with SSHS. Expand the parent involvement in Booster programs by 3% per year. Work to expand the parent and community volunteer programs, publications and informational meetings over previous years.
