Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
The "Quest for Excellence" drives our efforts as we continue to implement our five-year School Improvement Plan. Our goal is success for all students with an emphasis on the ninth grade year.
  • AP Students took 813 exams in 23 subject areas. Three students earned National Merit Finalist and seven semifinalists.
  • Vicki Collaro (Math), Mike McMurray (Science) and Peggy Hickman (English) earned National Board Certification.
  • The Caxton Yearbook earned the 2008 National Scholastic Press Associations Pacemaker Award.
  • Excalibur received the Gallup Award by International Quill & Scroll & Gold Medalist Certificate by Columbia Scholastic Press.
  • Marching Band won its 11th Nevada State Championship and participated in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena Calif.
  • Candy Carter (English) was selected for the Phyllis Cayton Perry International Educator Award.
  • Sue Knafelc (Math) was selected for the Siemens Award for Advanced Placement by the College Board.
  • Nevada Prize Exam in Math - Jacob Manning, David Ahmadi. Trigstar Winners - Neil Minesh Mehta, Luo Yoting, David Amadi.
  • Austin Elcano has been selected to the 47th Annual United States Senate Youth Program.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
All students, especially those on IEP's ELL students, and Hispanic students, will increase their proficiency in Math.

Objective(s):
IEP, ELL and Hispanic students will increase their Math proficiency to meet the benchmark of 71.3 in math as measured by NHSPE March 2009 administration.

Goal 2
All students, especially those on Individualized Education Plan (IEP), will increase their proficiency in Reading.

Objective(s):
IEP students will increase their reading proficiency to meet the benchmark of 86.7 in reading as measured by the NHSPE March 2009 administration.

Goal 3
Create an Extended Learning Time that is built into the daily schedule.

Objective(s):
To provide every student with a thirty minute block of time during the school day for tutoring, make-up work or extra time on assignments.
