Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Reed HS is a school of 2387 students.  As a comprehensive high school, it offers a wide array of courses from Advanced Placement to a variety of Career and Vocational Classes.
  • We the People, a constitutional law class, represented Nevada at the national competiton in Washington, D.C.
  • Christopher Salls was named National Merit Scholarship Finalist.
  • The Drama Department enchanted audiences with the fall comedy Harvey and spring musical Singin in the Rain.
  • The girls' Soccer team, coached by Jason Saville, won three Northern Nevada State championship.
  • Carissa Mangubat was selected for the Principals' Leadership Award Scholarship ($1000) sponsored by NASSP and Herff Jones.
  • The Student Leadership Class hosted 1200 students for the 2009 Nevada Association of Student Councils State Conference.
  • Advanced Placement Awards granted: Scholars-28, Honors-5, Distinction-11, National Scholar-1.
  • The Lorentzen Family, including Lisa an 11th grade Reed student, performed on Singing Family Face Off on CBS Early Show.
  • Constance Dutra won $1000 and a trip to Washington, D.C. for her essay that raises awareness about crimes against humanity.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Reed High School 's goal is to increase freshmen academic success.

Objective(s):
Decrease the number of credit deficient freshmen by 10%.
Improve the percentage of first year freshmen successfully attaining sophomore status.
Improve the level of student engagement in the school's academic community.
Positively affect graduation rates as students transition.

Goal 2
Reed High School's goal is to improve student scores on all Nevada State High School Proficiency Exams.

Objective(s):
Improve the percentage of students passing all portions on the HSPE on the first attempt by 10%.

Goal 3
Reed High School 's goal is to improve the safety and security of our campus community for our students and staff.

Objective(s):
Decrease the number and severity of incidents of violence by by 15% on or about our campus during the school day.
To increase the level of confidence that students and staff have in the safety measures employed at the school.
