Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century.
 
Highlights
Hug High continues to improve in every measurable academic category. We believe in the potential of each and every student and support each of our kids in achieving their goals and dreams!
  • Hug will graduate the largest graduating class in school history on June 8, 2011.
  • Hug senior, Miriam Contreras, earned a Gates Millennium Scholarship. She was 1 of 23,000 applicants and 1 of 1000 selected!
  • Hug made AYP by making performance targets in 26 categories and safe harbor in 7 categories.
  • Hug continues to utilize Title 1 funding to offer after school tutoring in ALL core academic areas.
  • Hug congratulates our Army JROTC program for their amazing work in the community and in support of our veterans.
  • Hug sophomores obtained the highest ever "first time pass rate" on the Nevada High School Proficiency Exam in school history.
  • Hug congratulates all of our student athletes for superior seasons in representing the HAWKS! Record participation!
  • We congratulate ALL our junior and seniors students who completed GATE internships during 2010-11. Highest enrollment in WCSD.
  • Congratulations to the Hug Fine Arts Department for a year filled with firsts! Awards, honors, shows, and showings!
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
All students at Hug High will show improvement in reading, writing, and oral literacy skills.

Objective(s):
Instructional support will be ongoing and embedded through grade level and departmental planning. ESL students will receive additional support through SIOP instruction. Special Education students will be fully included to the highest degree. Additional resources will be purchased for library use.

Goal 2
Hug High will decrease the dropout rate and increase the graduation rate by focusing on credit acquisition.

Objective(s):
Specific red/yellow/green light student tracking will precisely monitor and provide a roadmap of support for all students. Supplemental opportunities for credit acquisition will be offered before, after and during school as well as on weekends and school breaks to support student success.

Goal 3
All students will show improvement in English Language Arts, mathematics, and science through improved test performance.

Objective(s):
Skills tutor and after school tutoring will be offered at no cost to all Hug students. All students will be provided the lowest cost access to ACT/SAT testing administered on campus as well as access to the Accuplacer and ASVAB exams to maximize options for all students.
