Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century.

The SparksHigh Schoolcommunity continues their commitment to graduating all studentsas productive citizens prepared to access a full range of post-secondary educational and career opportunities.
  • SHSmade AdequateYearly Progress (AYP), for the 2009-1010 school year.
  • SHS students benefited from the Edujobs grant that provided additional teacher allocations to decrease class sizes.
  • SHS students benefitted from the prevention/intervention grant that provided students the opportunity to gain credits needed.
  • SHSreceived the 2011 Nevada Mega Conference Highlighted School Award.
  • SHS Vertical Alignment Team developed and implemented a strategic plan to address the needs of all students.
  • SHS received the 2011 Nevada Partnership for Inclusive Education Inspiration Award.
  • Faculty and staff received such honors as National Board Certification in Counseling, Teaching, and CTE Teacher of the Year.
  • SHS MESA students received second place in the Regional competition.
  • SHS Family and Consumer Science Department students received several awards ranging from bronze to gold medals.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Increase the graduation rate.

Objective(s):
Increased the graduation rateby 4% to 57% for the SHS 2011 cohort.

Goal 2
Increased Student Academic Achievement in ELA and Math.

Objective(s):
Decreased the number of non-proficient students within all subgroups, by 3% as measured by ELA and Math HSPE scores by June 2011. Increase ELA to 92% and increase Math to 72%.

Goal 3
Increased 9th Grade Credit Accrual.

Objective(s):
Increased the number of 9th grade students that complete their freshman year with 5 or more credits by 3% from 75% to 78%.
