Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Billinghurst is proud to have many extraordinary educators and students.  This year Ms. L. Kendrick was recognized by the No. Nevada Math Council as the Outstanding Math Educator.
  • The Math Counts team finished 2nd in No. Nevada and 5th in the state.
  • The UNR Silver Scholars Program honored 75 - 8th graders for their outstanding academic work.
  • Counseling provided evening parent presentations on bullying, high school transition, substance abuse, and suicide.
  • The Technology class has implemented a new SMART Lab which focuses on technology concepts thru hands-on activities.
  • The Science Dept. implemented a new textbook incorporating interactive technology in the classroom.
  • Career Day had 45 professionals from the community present information on their careers to the students.
  • 70 students participated in the musical hit Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr.
  • Nearly 70% of the student body participate in a music class:  jazz band, concert band, orchestra or choir.
  • A Billinghurst art student was awarded a Silver Key in the Scholastic Art Competition.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
To continue to increase the English language proficiency of all students.

Objective(s):
The staff supports reading and writing across the curriculum through all subjects.  Teachers continue to attend professional development in PLC’s focused on writing across the curriculum, standard based assessments, providing multiple opportunities for success and advisory class topics.

Goal 2
To continue to increase the mathematics proficiency of all students.

Objective(s):
The math department continues to work closely with each other and all students to improve proficiency through PLATO, tutoring before-during-and after school and through Algebraic Thinking classes.

Goal 3
To continue to increase the Algebra 1-2 pass rate.

Objective(s):
Provide Algebra 1-2 students with additional elements in mastery of learning: a) extra time thru tutoring at lunch and after school; b) all students are provided multiple opportunities for success by retaking quizzes and tests.
