Vaughn Middle School has made many changes this year in order to increase student growth and achievement, and to meet the Envision WCSD 2015 goal of "Every Child, by Name and Face, to Graduation."- UNR recognized approximately 50 Vaughn 8th grade students for academic achievement in their Silver Scholars program in March.
- Intervention classes such as Plato, Read 180, and Algebra support helped students to improve academically and earn credits.
- Our Partner in Education, the Grand Sierra Resort, provided food on many occasions for family events throughout the year.
- In Fall, 2010, Lifestyle Homes Foundation donated $10,000 to Vaughn Middle School to enhance learning and student incentives.
- We utilized the MAP data assessment program to help monitor student progress in reading and math in core subjects this year.
- We held a Career Day at Vaughn where students attended 4 sessions on careers of interest, with 35 careers represented.
- The Kiwanis Club donated approximately $2,500 to provide uniform shirts, pants, and sweatshirts for needy students.
- Vaughn's Band and Strings participated in several concerts, receiving accolades for their performances again this year.
- We developed Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) folders for all students to use as part of career and goal setting.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 We will increase the participation and passing rate on the Algebra CBE to 33% and the 8th grade math CRT exam to 43%.
Objective(s): Students will receive added classroom support, after school tutoring, and extended learning time in order to accomplish the goal of a minimum pass rate for the Algebra CBE and the 8th grade CRT exam. Teachers were provided with weekly PLC training and planning time to accomplish this goal.
Goal 2 We will increase reading performance to 48% of students at or above proficiency on CRTs, with 12% exceeding standard.
Objective(s): Students below grade level on MAP and CRT data will receive interventions such as READ 180, System 44, or Voyager reading in addition to their regular ELA class. ESL students will receive an additional class period of instruction on Words Their Way in order to increase their reading skills.
Goal 3 We will increase the 8th grade writing performance to 46% of students at or above proficiency, with 13% exceeding.
Objective(s): We will increase the percentage of students at or above proficiency by 3% through rigorous Tier I instruction, data driven decision making, and Tier II interventions for students not meeting standards. We utilized after school and Saturday writing training to target students needing more help.
