The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century. |

Our focus is for continuous academic success for all students, with an emphasis on reading and writing across all content areas and greater opportunity for students in higher level math courses.- Swope had 13 students selected for the district honor band and six students were selected for the district honor orchestra.
- Six chorus members were selected for the district honor choir and 4 members were selected for the all-state honor choir.
- The combined band was selected to represent all Washoe County middle school bands to perform at the NME Conference.
- In cooperation with RTAA the Gingerbread House fundraiser was able to donate $634.44 to the Animal Ark.
- Swope was recognized and nominated for a Nevada PIE Inspiration Award, which honors schools for their inclusive practices.
- Four Social Studies teachers received initial GLAD training and have been implementing the strategies in their classrooms.
- At the Scholastic Art Awards, students received 9 silver and 7 gold key awards plus the prestigious American Visions Award.
- A Swope student was recognized by the VFW as a national finalist in the Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay Competition in DC.
- Encore Night filled our school with incoming 7th grade students and parents as part of our middle school transition process.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Increase the proficiency rate for 8th grade students on the Reading CRT by 2 % and on the 8th Grade Writing Exam by 3%.
Objective(s): All students will earn AR points throughout the year; levels will be set using Gates-McGinitie and MAP scores. Students will practice reading and expository writing strategies during enrichment time and in all content area classes. All students will participate in a Writer’s workshop by mid-year.
Goal 2 Increase the number of 8th grade students who are enrolled in Algebra and the pass rate on the Credit by Exam (CBE).
Objective(s): Identify more 8th grade students qualified to take Algebra 1 using MAP scores, CRT scores, and teacher recommendation. Students having difficulties with specific concepts and skills will be pulled from elective classes and given focused algebra support as needed to keep pace with class.
Goal 3 Increase the number of 8th grade students at or above proficiency on the Mathematics CRT by five percent.
Objective(s): Students’ progress will be measured using math MAP scores and common assessments. Students not achieving grade-level proficiency will be assigned to 30 minute math tutoring at least two times per week. Students needing more support will be assigned to a regularly scheduled math support class.
