Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Clayton Middle School forged new relationships with the community and parents.  We refined instructional skills and expanded academic intervention to meet the needs of all students.
  • Twenty talented Cubs auditioned for and were selected to be part of the Washoe County Honor Orchestra.
  • Clayton increased focus on literacy by participating in a monthly literacy cadre and sharing the knowledge with the staff.
  • Students were able to expand their technology skills and applications in Clayton’s new Smart Lab.
  • Teachers built instructional skills by participating in ongoing “Understanding by Design” projects.
  • Clayton ESL students demonstrated great progress as they were among the few schools achieving success on the AMAO testing.

  • Math teachers increased collaboration and differentiated instruction through training in “Student Learning Facilitation.”
  • Clayton implemented Response to Intervention process and protocol including weekly IAT meetings to assess student progress.
  • Clayton students learned about government processes through school wide mock elections that paralleled the National Election.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Clayton students, especially IEP and ESL, will increase ELA/writing proficiency, measured by CRT/writing exams.

Objective(s):
IEP and ESL students that Meet or Exceed Standards in language arts will increase by 10% as measured by CRT tests.  The IAT team will monitor students and differentiate student needs. Content area teachers will support literacy and provide opportunities to apply reading, writing, listening skills.

Goal 2
All students, especially IEP and ESLwill increase their math proficiency as measured by CRT exams.

Objective(s):
The percent of IEP and ESL students that Meet or Exceed Standards in math will increase by at least 10% as measured by the 2009 CRT.  Math support will be provided for students needing assistance and remediation

Goal 3
Clayton will maintain a safe environment with emphasis on character traits promoting positive community relationships.

Objective(s):
Clayton will decrease student referrals by 20% through implementation of a positive behavioral program with focus on core character traits. This program will include positive incentives, on location application, and clear defined expectations for behavior
