Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Mathews ES continues to implement research-based instruction and data-driven instruction.  We examine student performance and implement instruction to reach all learners.
  • 50.6% of our 5th grade students passed the Nevada Writing Exam, a 12% increase from last year.
  • 59% of Mathews ES Limited English students reached Annual Measurable Achievement Outcomes.
  • Five teachers applied for their National Board Certification. Five teachers were trained as Student Learning Facilitators.
  • Ms. Eckert participated in a WCSD math curriculum alignment.
  • Mrs. Strebel received A Day Made Better 2008 award from OfficeMax for excellence in teaching.
  • Mathews ES made Adequate Yearly Progress.
  • Mathews ES placed 10th in the V-port Math contest.  A 4th grade student won 2nd place in the Cesar Chavez essay contest.
  • With the support of our partners in education, our field was replanted and dedicated.
  • Mathews ES won 2nd place in the Meridian Run for Education.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
All students will increase reading fluency and comprehension.

Objective(s):
At least 53% of students in disaggregated groups grades 3-6 will be proficient as measured by the Nevada CRT.  Students in grades 2-6 will increase reading proficiency at least 1.2 grade levels.

Goal 2
All students will increase writing proficiency.

Objective(s):
At least 53% of 5th grade students in disaggregated groups will demonstrate proficiency on the NV Writing Exam.  All students will improve trait scores in ideas, organization, voice and conventions as measured by school writing assessments.

Goal 3
All students will increase math proficiency.

Objective(s):
At least 53% of students in disaggregated groups grades 3-6 will demonstrate proficiency as measured by the Nevada CRT.  All students in grades 2-6 will improve on the MAP math assessment.
