Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Donner Springs celebrated a successful collaboration with the Sierra Arts Foundation that enabled the school to celebrate the arts in memory of a beloved staff member, Mr. Ed Macmillan.
  • Additional highlights included:
    Two student productions showcasing artists Tiffany Mayorga, Bernie Beauchamp, & Tom McCormack.
  • Participation in the Reading First Initiative.Three teachers applied for their National Board certification.
  • The fifth grade scores on the Nevada Writing  Proficiency Test increased by 15%.
  • Implemented a school-wide writing program with grade specific rubrics that aligned to the six writing traits.
  • On-site instructional coach (IC) funded through SB 185 and 5 SLFs.
  • First year of reauthorization of the Catch the Dream 21st Century Intervention Program.
  • On-going collaborative partnership with Sheehan/VanWoert/Bigotti Architects.
  • Continuing partnerships with the City of Reno, Sierra Kids, and the Truckee Meadows Boys and Girls Club.
  • Added four Promethean ActivBoards to classrooms, bringing the total to eight in use in our school.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Goal 1:   Increase the percentage of LEP, Hispanic, IEP, & FRL populations proficient in English /language arts (ELA).

Objective(s):
Measurable Objective(s):  Third through sixth grade, students in each of the disaggregated groups will demonstrate a minimum of 5% increase in ELA proficiency as measured by the state and district CRTs.

Goal 2
Goal 2: Increase the percentage of LEP, Hispanic/Latino, IEP, & FRL populations who are proficient in math.

Objective(s):
Measurable Objective(s): Third through sixth grade students in each of the disaggregated groups will demonstrate a minimum of 5% increase in math proficiency as measured by the state and district CRTs.

Goal 3
Goal 3: Increase the percentage of LEP, Hispanic/Latino, IEP, & FRL populations who are proficient in writing.

Objective(s):
Measurable Objective(s): Fifth grade students in each of the disaggregated groups will demonstrate writing proficiency as measured by the Nevada Writing Proficiency test and student work samples.
