Spanish Springs ES strives for academic excellence while fosteringa respectfulculture for every child.- Project Wisdom was introduced to the school to help start each day out right with a positive message for students and staff.
- SSES students continued their focus on going “green” with recycling plastics, paper, and Capri Suns.
- PBS continued with Otter Shell winners getting lunch with the Principal, extra recesses, and many other prizes.
- SSES students gave back to the community by donating a dollar a month to different local charities.
- Magic Penny was used for intervention to increase phonemic awareness and literacy skills.
- Elaine Retzer, our 5th grade teacher, was awarded Excellence in Education.
- RTI was used effectively, showing growth with students that are below grade level.
- Margaret Nesler, our secretary, was awarded Classified Employee of the Month.
- Writing Camp andbefore school tutoring for grades 3-6 helped improve our test scores.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Improve student achievement in reading as measured by the 2010-2011 Nevada Reading CRT scores.
Objective(s): This year, at least 73% of 3rd graders, 68% of 5th graders and at least 73% of all students will meet or exceed the target score as measured by the Nevada Reading CRT.
Goal 2 Improve student achievement in math as measured by the 2010-2011 Nevada Math CRT scores.
Objective(s): This year, at least 70% of 3rd graders, 71% of 5th graders, and at least 74% of all students will meet or exceed the target score as measured by the Nevada Math CRT.
Goal 3 Improve 5th grade writing scores as measured by the 2010-2011 state 5th grade writing test.
Objective(s): The target will be to improve the 5th grade writing scores by 5%, specifically increase at least 5% in the subgroup of IEP.
