Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century.
 
Highlights
This has been a year of many changes for Hidden Valley Elementary. WIth a new principal, Infinite Campus, and piloting standards referenced report cards, staff worked hard to increase achievement.
  • Students were recognized at the Top Dog Awards for outstanding behavior and academics
  • Ms. Pozarski, Mrs. Joseph, Ms. Cooke, and Mrs. Del Carlo all received their Masters Degrees in December of this school year
  • We received 4 extra teachers from the Edujobs grant to decrease class sizes in kindergarten, third, and fifth grades and ESL
  • The PTA purchased Accelerated Math for all students to increase student achievement in math
  • The intervention program was redesigned to ensure all students receive extra instruction in math and literacy at their level
  • Students participated in the online Measure of Academic Progress assessment, which provided teachers with important data
  • Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday with pancakes & a visit from the Cat in the Hat
  • Staff participated in weekly professional development on early release Wednesdays to learn about instructional strategies
  • Our school celebrated November as Father Involvement month with many activities to show how fathers help education
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Improve student achievement in reading as measured by the district performance indicators and the Nevada Reading CRT

Objective(s):
Goal will be measured by the attainment of the proficiency level of at least 85% of 3rd grade students, 57% of 5th grade students, and 63.8% of all students on the Nevada Reading CRT

Goal 2
Improve student achievement in math as measured by the district performance indicators and the Nevada math CRT

Objective(s):
Goal will be measured by the attainment of the proficiency level of at least 75% of 3rd grade students, 74% of 5th grade students, and 65.9% of all students on the Nevada Math CRT

Goal 3
Improve student achievement in writing as measured by the district performance indicators and the Nevada writing CRT

Objective(s):
Goal will be measured by the attainment of the proficiency level of at least 40% of 5th grade students on the Nevada Fifth Grade Writing CRT
