Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Virginia Palmer School continues our focus on improving literacy instruction for every student.  We work together unifying our efforts in every subject to meet the needs of each individual child.
  • Palmer received SB185 grant funding for two interventionists and an I Coach to improve learning opportunities in literacy.
  • Reno Sunrise Rotary partnered with Palmer to purchase three new ball walls for the playground.
  • We were awarded a “Safe Routes to School” grant for three years working on safely coming to and returning home from school.
  • A tutoring grant was awarded Palmer students focused on increasing reading achievement through the Education Alliance.
  • The Van Sickle Foundation awarded Palmer $10,000 for reading intervention materials.
  • Palmer received the Reading First Targeted Assistance Grant to improve literacy instruction in grades K-3.
  • 100% of the faculty has been GLAD trained improving classroom instruction.
  • Palmer purchased Read Naturally and Reading Mastery with grant funding for focused reading instruction.
  • Reno Sunrise Rotary sponsored a Safety Fair at Palmer to promote student safety awareness.

Goal 1
Goal 1Increase reading proficiency for all students, differentiating instruction, especially our IEP and LEP students.

Objective(s):
Objective(s):2007-2008 AYP data show that 36% of all students at Palmer Elementary were proficient in Reading.  Therefore, the number of proficient students in Reading school wide will increase by 14% to reach a target of 50% proficient on the CRT testing of Reading in 2010.

Goal 2Increase Writing proficiency for all students, differentiating instruction, especially for our IEP/LEP students.

Objective(s):
Objective(s):2008-2009 Writing data show that 29.3 % of fifth grade students at Palmer Elementary were proficient in Writing.  Therefore, the number of proficient students in Writing will increase by 20% to reach a target of 50% on the Nevada State Writing Assessment in 2010.

Goal 3Increase Math proficiency for all students, differentiating instruction, especially for IEP/LEP students.

Objective(s):2008-2009 Math data show that 49% of all students at Palmer Elementary were proficient.  Therefore, the number of proficient students in Math will increase school wide by 11% to reach a target of 60% proficient on the CRT Assessment in 2010.
