Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.

Highlights
The Dunn ES community continues to focus on academic achievement.  Our primary goal is to increase proficiency in math, reading and writing.  New science curriculum was introduced to sixth graders.
  • The number of 5th graders who scored ‘proficient’ on the mandated writing test doubled as teachers used Step Up To Writing.
  • Dunn ES again met the AMAO (Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives) requirements for English Language Learners.
  • A Read 180 Computer Lab program provided intensive literacy instruction for struggling 4th graders.
  • Our after school tutoring program, funded by the Washoe Education Foundation, helps students improve their literacy skills.
  • A  Social Resource Program was created to teach students with Asperger’s Syndrome social skills needed to succeed in school.
  • Our school’s Safety Plan was updated to improve the efficiency of fire drills and Code Red practices.
  • Students hear a daily message to build character by encouraging them to take responsibility for their choices and actions.
  • A new before-school breakfast program provides a nutritious meal to 100 students each day so they are more prepared to learn.
  • The Artist in Residence Program, sponsored by Sierra Arts, provided an enriching visual arts experience to 200 students.
