E.M. Johnson has an experienced staff that is dedicated to providing a challenging educational environment. They have high expectations that allow their students to reach their potential.- • Professional development created an effective RTI program based on current evaluative data.
- • The Character Development program focused students on values and behaviors that would increase civic awareness.
- • Reading Week included community readers, author/illustrator Teddy Swecker, and sharing of poems.
- • Enrichment Assemblies included Pioneer Performances-Japanese Drums, Celtic Christmas, Space Program and Gun Safety.
- • The Christmas Musical demonstrated student enthusiasm and was well attended by the community.
- • The staff began exploration of “Step Up to Writing” to address the goals and training in Differentiated Instruction.
- • The students participated in writing projects for the Ladies VFW and science fair.
- • Students and Staff have collaborated with the High School Student Council in providing various learning activities.
- • Students and Staff have collaborated with the FFA with nutritional instruction, community garden, and peer tutoring.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Students will improve writing abilities in the areas of grammar and punctuation.
Objective(s): Students approaching the standard or emergent developing in the areas of mechanics and grammar will improve by 15% as measured by the 5th grade writing assessment and the Terra Nova, testing portfolios will show an increase of one step in the 6 Traits of Writing rubic and quarterly writing probes.
Goal 2 Students will improve math computations and problem solving.
Objective(s): Students will increase math computations and problem solving 10% as measured by CCC, CRT, Terra Nova, and WCSD’s formative assessments. Benchmarks/formative assessments will also be used to track progress towards achieving this goal.
Goal 3 Students will increase their reading comprehension skills.
Objective(s): Students identified as approaching standard or emergent developing in the content area of reading will increase their reading comprehension skills, by the equivalency of one reading level as measured by the STAR basic reading, Terra Nova, CRT, CCC and Houghton-Mifflin tests.
