Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century.
 
Highlights
2010-2011 was a year of refining at Pleasant Valley Elementary. Teams worked on refining our RTI process, PBIS program and continued working on developing improved writing skills across all grades.
  • All grade levels continue to develop skill specific interventions, enrichment activities and assessments for both.
  • Intervention Assistance Team continues to review RTI process and provide greater assistance for students and teachers.
  • Pleasant Valley’s professional learning communities developed systemic requirements for writing at each grade level.
  • Seven teachers participated in a book study for writing instruction with young writers then implemented the information.
  • PTA continued to support our Physical Education Program and provided a supplemental math program for the school.
  • PV fully implemented the Positive Behavioral Intervention Support program with a team of teachers providing support.
  • Two new smart boards were added to the classrooms with two teachers being instructed by site knowledgeable peers.
  • Quarterly recognition for students who excel in grades, attendance and behavior continues to be supported by UOP.
  • Pleasant Valley had students receive an award at the state science fair and one placed in top 15 of Math Counts competition.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Our first goal is to improve writing scores.

Objective(s):
75% of our 5th graders will pass the writing test by:
  • Developing a systemic growth plan from K-5th grade
  • Have school wide writing assessments three times throughout the year
  • Weekly workshops where they will practice writing, then review their writing using the state rubric


Goal 2
Our second goal is to improve reading scores for all with a focus on our disaggregated groups.

Objective(s):
Students in dissagregated groups will improve reading scores by 25% by:
  • Support small group instruction for all grades
  • Develop appropriate and accurate interventions
  • Refer struggling students to RTI process
  • Provide extra help for students below grade level


Goal 3
Our third goal is to improve math scores for all with a focus on our disaggregated groups.

Objective(s):
Our dissagregated groups will improve by 25% by:
  • Supplementing our math program with Excel math
  • Provide intervention time for specific math skills
  • Develop activities and assessments that target specific skills
  • Develop system for all students to track skill improvement
