Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Brown E.S is committed to the academic and social growth of our students. Staff leadership has promoted a level of teamwork and support which has had a positive impact on our students.
  • Brown E.S. successfully completed its first year on the multi-track calendar.
  • Brown E.S. received an SB 185 grant for $250,000.00 to implement PLCs and have an instructional coach for staff development.
  • Students took part in the Meridian Gold Run earning $2,000 to help purchase additional PE equipment.
  • All grade levels developed an intervention/enrichment block in instruction to differentiate reading, math and writing.
  • PTO continued to fund a physical education aide, extra hours for the computer aide, and fifth grade strings instruction.
  • Parent Patrol continued to be an active group that provides safety in our crossing zones for students and parents.
  • We increased after school activities for our students.  Examples include Spanish, art, and academic tutoring.
  • Our annual Art Fair night was a huge success. It included student and class art work, a silent auction, and raffle items.
  • We had a 10% increase in students who were proficient or exceeding the standard on the Analytic Trait Writing Assessment.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
To increase student achievement on the English/Language Arts component of the State CRT.

Objective(s):
All students, especially IEP and LEP students, will increase their proficiency on the English/Language Arts component of the State CRT by at least 8% during the 2008-2009 school year.

Goal 2
To increase student achievement on the Math component of the State CRT.

Objective(s):
All students, especially our LEP and IEP students, will increase their proficiency on the Math component of the State CRT by at least 8% during the 2008-2009 school year.

Goal 3
Increase student achievement on the 5th grade Analytic Writing Assessment.

Objective(s):
All students will increase their proficiency on the Analytic Writing Assessment by at least 7% during the 2008-2009 school year.
