Mitchell ES takes pride in the accomplishments of students and staff throughout the year. We enjoy support of several partners, volunteers and contributors who have enriched our school environment.- Large crowds helped to celebrate our 70th birthday with a student decade museum, play, song, dances, and dignitaries.
- 21st Century grant provides a free/donation after school program including tutoring, enrichment, and dinner to 146 students.
- Erica Hill, Alex Rodriguez, Preston Matson, Damian Van Patten, and Joseph Stout earned recognition for outstanding writing.
- SB 185 grant funds an instructional coach, after school tutoring, kindergarten aides and one 4th grade intervention class.
- Title 1 funds a writing teacher. The number of proficient 5th grade students increased to 45% proficient from 33%.
- Special events were: full length play, STAR T-shirt fashion show, 6th grade newspapers, career fair, and talent show.
- Mrs. Stelle’s 4th grade organized a 1912 pound food drive that earned 2nd place in the county from the Salvation Army.
- Problem Solving STARS help students mediate on the playground, usher at events and and teach STAR behavior skills weekly.
- 17% of the students increased proficiency in reading and math due to 45 minutes of daily intervention.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 All 3-6 graders, especially Hispanic, LEP, and IEP students will improve reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary.
Objective(s): Increase percentage of proficient students in reading comprehension to 51.7% as measured by the CTR. Teachers use data and plan together Tier 1 instruction and interventions maximizing student engagement. Students set learning goals based on test scores. After school tutoring is available.
Goal 2 Students will be proficient in math computation and problem solving as measured by district tests and state CRT.
Objective(s): Increase number of proficient students to 54.6% as measured by the CRT. Teachers use data, WCSD pacing guide and teamwork to deliver Tier 1 instruction and intervention. Students set learning goals based on test scores. Supplemental materials are used to master skills.
Goal 3 All students will increase proficiency using trait writing in the narrative genre .
Objective(s): Increase the number of proficient 5th graders by 5% on the state writing CRT. The writing teacher coordinated lessons and staff development. Development of a Mitchell writing rubric promotes consistent expectations for students K-6. Teachers conference with students to help set their goals.
