The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community. |

Our three SIP goals encompassed reading, math, and writing. We focused on reading’s 90-minute block during staff PLCs. Writing practices continued with an RPDP trainer.- Risley again achieved Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAO) for our ELL students in 2008-2009.
- Ms. Shari Dunn from the RPDP provided writing ideas and enrichment activity suggestions to use during writing instruction.
- Risley’s fifth grade writing scores improved from 27.3% last year to 31.4% this year, a 4.1% gain.
- Ms. Axley and Ms. Dean, both 1st grade teachers, began training this year to become certified as Reading Recovery teachers.
- Our kinder teachers, Ms. Mclean, Ms. Lynch, and Ms. Fogal, attended the Handwriting Without Tears Conference in California.
- Students from Mr. Crosby’s and Mr. Taylor’s classes were invited to participate in the Technology Café held at TMCC.
- Mr. Stoddard and Mrs. Voss coached the Risley soccer team to many victories.
- Agnes Risley Elementary School will be part of the WCSD Revitalization Project during the 2009 summer.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 All students will demonstrate increased reading proficiency by the end of the 2008-2009 school year.
Objective(s): Currently 38.59% of all 3rd through 6th grade students are proficient in reading according to the Nevada CRT results. By the end of the '08-'09 school year, the scores for the total population of 3rd through 6th grade students will meet or exceed 44%.
Goal 2 All students will demonstrate increased math proficiency by the end of the 2008-2009 school year.
Objective(s): Currently 53.85% of students in 3rd through 6th grades are designated as proficient in math according to the Nevada CRT results. By the end of the '08-'09 school year, 58% of students in grades 3 through 6 will be proficient in math.
Goal 3 All students will demonstrate increased writing proficiency, especially those students in 4th and 5th grades.
Objective(s): According to state writing assessment results, 27.3% of 5th grade students were proficient in writing. By the end of the '08-'09 school year, 32% of students in 5th grade will be proficient in writing.
