The focus at Stead Elementary School is on academics and character building. Activities support the curriculum and the development of good citizens through cooperation and responsibility.- Washoe Education Foundation grant provided funding for after-school literacy tutoring.
- North Valleys Neighborhood Advisory Board provided a $14,000 grant to fund new playground equipment.
- Vietnam Veterans of America Ch. 718 donated $2,000 for the purchase of new library books.
- Children in Transition grant of $4,500 funded literacy tutoring for children in transition.
- Stead 5th and 6th grade boys and girls participated in the Maurice Caudill Soccer League.
- Multicultural Night and Harvest Festival activities helped raise $5,000 for school projects.
- Kiwanis Club of Reno donated one new book to every Stead student.
- Golf lessons provided to 40 6th grade students by the Sierra Sage Men's and Women's Club.
- Stead Elementary School was upgraded with 70 brand new Dell computers for classrooms and the computer lab.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 All students will increase reading proficiency to reach the state benchmark of 51.7%
Objective(s): To increase, by 10%, the number of third, fourth, fifith, and sixth grade students identified as proficient and exceeds in ELA as measured by the Nevada CRT tests.
Goal 2 All students will improve number sense, computation, and application of skills to reach the state benchmark of 56.3%.
Objective(s): To increase, by 10%, the number of third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students identified as proficient and exceeds in math as measured by the Nevada CRT tests.
Goal 3 Increase the number of students who are proficient in writing.
Objective(s): At least 50% of 5th grade students in all disaggregated groups will demonstrate proficiency on the state Analytic Trait Writing Test. Students will improve trait scores in ideas, organization, voice, and conventions as measured by school writing assessments.
