Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century.
 
Highlights
Smithridge entered Year 1 as a SIG school with a clear vision focused on aligned standards, best-practice teaching, common assessments, and teamwork to increase individual student achievement.
  • Two Instructional Coaches, an RTI Coordinator, and a Data Coach have been essential in supporting teaching staff.
  • Principal and two deans have provided teachers with specific instructional feedback via 500+ classroom walk-throughs.
  • RTI interventions take place before/after school. The IAT team meets quarterly with every teacher to discuss every student.
  • Grade-level PLCs meet weekly to report data, plan instruction based on results & standards, and create formative assessments.
  • Positive Behavior Support reinforces appropriate student behaviors increasing instructional time for all.
  • A STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) Academy provides higher DOK instructional experiences to support standards.
  • The 21st Century Team Up Program has provided academic & enrichment opportunities for students before & after school.
  • Professional development trainings have included SIOP, Lucy Calkins, Infinite Campus, MAP, PBS, STEM, and the PDSA cycle.
  • Data is used to inform all school-wide decisions, including IAT conferences, grade level planning & professional development.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Increase school-wide reading proficiency.

Objective(s):
43 % of all students will meet or exceed standards in Reading. 46% of all 5th grade students will meet or exceed standards in Reading. 44% of all 3rd grade students will meet or exceed standards in Reading. 45% of all Kindergarten students will meet or exceed standards in Reading.

Goal 2
Increase school-wide math proficiency.

Objective(s):
50% of all students will meet or exceed standards in Math. 65% of all 5th grade students will meet or exceed standards in Math. 36% of all 3rd grade students will meet or exceed standards in Math.

Goal 3
Increase writing proficiency in all grades.

Objective(s):
31% of all 5th grade students will meet or exceed standards in Writing.
