Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.

Highlights
Sierra Vista has had a very exciting year, one that continues to focus and foster growth and academic success for all students.
  • Over 90% of our classrooms either have an ELMO or an ACTIVBoard which enhances daily instruction.  Nine classrooms have both.
  • Our after-school tutoring now includes a writing component, as well as math and language arts support.
  • Four of our teachers were awarded grants from the Assistance League of Sparks.
  • We now have literacy classes for parents, to help them support reading strategies for their children at home.
  • Our Math Nights continue to grow, the last one we had in April supported, fed and trained over 65 people.
  • Sierra Vista now has a P.E. teacher to support physical education for all students.
  • Our PLCs are strong with each grade level meeting for an hour each week to discuss strategies to support students.
  • We have implemented a school wide intervention time.  Each student receives 45 minutes of daily instruction at their level.
  • Our 5th grade Writing Test scores increased from 18% passing in 2008 to 30% passing in 2009.
