Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Student achievement and sustained staff development reflect this year’s accomplishments. Snapshots of Corbett’s distinctive activities are as follows:
  • Writing proficiency test results increased by 16.60%.
  • Krystal Manzano, Ruby Mora, Deysi Chavez, and Guadalupe Maravilla won the annual reading contest.
  • Edwin Cisneros Rodriguez won the WCSD third grade bookmark contest.
  • Andres Limon’s essay was published on WritingFix website.
  • Four third grade students attended Northern Nevada Writing Project’s poetry workshop.
  • We added 500 new books to our Library and students received five books from state grant monies.
  • Ms. Frances Nichols was honored by the WCSD Board of Trustees for her outstanding service.
  • Ms. Denise McMurdo and Mrs. Jennifer Meier are training to become Math Recovery teachers.
  • Fourteen teachers are taking ESL classes sponsored by the ESL Office to support student achievement.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
To increase reading and writing skills by utilizing standard-based instruction to meet targeted performance levels.

Objective(s):
To meet or exceed the AYP target of 53.4 in English Language Arts by June, 2009.

Goal 2
To increase mathematic skills by utilizing standard-based instruction to meet targeted performance levels.

Objective(s):
To meet or exceed the AYP of 57.4 in Mathematics by June, 2009.

Goal 3
To increase the number of parents participating in the Corbett learning community activities.

Objective(s):
To increase parent attendance in activities by 5%.
