Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.

  • 219 students participated in the Run for Education.  Our school won first place and was awarded $4,000 to be used for P.E.
  • Our partner in education donated Rita Cannan T-shirts to each child at our school to be worn on Spirit Day every Friday.
  • Free tutoring was offered to all of our students.  This tutoring was done at school, on-line, or in the student’s home.
  • The St. Mary’s Take Care-A-Van provided dental services on our campus to 119 of our students.
  • The student dancers from our Team Up afterschool program performed at a Bighorns basketball game.
  • 142 parents and students attended an evening where they learned to write letters to Santa and made Gingerbread houses.
  • We held well attended “How to Work with Your Children” classes for our parents in writing, reading, and computers.
  • Our Hispanic dance troupe, The Celebration Dancers, performed for the district’s “Tune Into Kids” celebration.
  • Rita Cannan had an amazing soccer team.  Our students practiced and competed in an interscholastic program.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Proficiency in literacy will increase for all students and all disaggregated groups by the end of the school year.

Objective(s):
The percentages of third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students identified as proficient in the content area of reading will increase to 53.4%

Goal 2
Proficiency in writing will increase for all students and all disaggregated groups by the end of the school year.

Objective(s):
The percentage of fifth grade students identified as proficient in the content area of writing will increase to 53.4%.

Goal 3
Proficiency in math will increase for all students and disaggregated groups of students by the end of the school year.

Objective(s):
The percentage of third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students identified as proficient in the content area of math will increase to 57.4%.
