Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Peavine Elementary School was recognized for "Making AYP" according to the 2008 NCLB State Report.The hard work of staff, students and parents made this designation possible.
  • A State grant was used to support our Literacy Circle and Proficiency Builder remediation programs for struggling students.
  • Teachers participated on dynamic "writing skills" training and learned about the SIOP lens for ELL students
  • Our 5th graders reached 60% proficiency in State writing tests; our ELL students reached all AMAO targets.
  • Three schoolwide student recognition programs were used to motivate students: Student/Month, B.U.G and Principal's Club
  • We have continued our Book Buddies UNR student program and Read-To-Succeed. Several UNR students do practicums at our school.
  • Our PTA has supported several student activities, Family Focus Nights, Chilifest, teacher supply purchases and clubs.
  • The Video and Running clubs received community recognition. The Video Club received a grant to upgrade equipment.
  • Our Science Fair was a successful event with 60 entries and four award winners at the Regional Fair
  • District bond money is supporting new roofs, a new alarm system and new safety locks on all doors.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
We will reduce the number of students who do not reach proficiency in math, ELA and writing by 10%

Objective(s):
The number of non-proficient students will be less than math (18%), ELA (22%) and writing (30%)

Goal 2
Quality teaching will help us achieve an increase in "CRT MSS of 5% in ELA and math for all students.

Objective(s):
Statewide proficiency targets are 39.6% (ELA) and 45.4% (math).

Goal 3
The number of opportunities for parents to come to school will increase.

Objective(s):
We will have at least (3) additional parent events at school this year.
