Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century.
 
Highlights
Hunter Lake Elementary School strives for academic excellence through collaboration and a shared vision of student success. Learning is a joint effort between students, teachers and parents.
  • Classrooms, technology and security were the focus of the revitalization of Hunter Lake through 2002 bond rollover funding.
  • A $12,797 grant from Allie Leckie “It Takes A Community” funded after-school literacy tutoring for over 100 students.
  • INTUIT partnership provided student incentives, books, PBS and family support, learning activities, and field-day/barbecue.
  • Hunter Lake implemented Positive Behavior Support, recognizing students for their Responsible, Respectful and Safe behavior.
  • Edujobs funded an Intervention Specialist for providing additional instructional support for fourth through sixth grade.
  • PFA and grant funds were used to provide each teacher with a laptop computer to facilitate instruction using Activboards.
  • Teachers received weekly professional development in technology (Activboards) and effective instructional practices (SIOP).
  • Over $3,000 in Assistance League grants provided materials, equipment and an on-line Discovery Learning subscription.
  • WCSD implementation specialists supported standards-based learning activities and best practice in reading, writing and math.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Improve student achievement in math as measured by the district pathway performance indicators and Nevada Math CRT

Objective(s):
This year at least 89% of 3rd graders, 77% of 5th graders, and 65.9% of students in all groups will meet or exceed the target score as measured by the Nevada Math CRT. In-process district and classroom common assessments will be used to monitor student growth and performance throughout the year.

Goal 2
Improve student achievement in reading as measured by the district pathway performance indicators and Nevada Reading CRT

Objective(s):
This year at least 71% of 3rd graders, 55% of 5th graders, and 63.8% of students in all groups will meet or exceed the target score as measured by the Nevada Reading CRT.In-process district and classroom common assessments will be used to monitor student growth and performance throughout the year.

Goal 3
Improve student achievement in writing as measured by the district pathway performance indicators and site assessments

Objective(s):
This year at least 50% of all 5th grade students will meet or exceed the target score as measured by the Nevada 5th Grade Writing Examination. In-process, classroom-based common assessments and ongoing writing assignments will be used to monitor the progress of individual student growth in writing.
