Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Glenn Duncan continues to be a family oriented, community based school that focuses on the academic and social development of all students.  All staff is committed to the success of all students.
  • Implemented our Walk to Learn literacy intervention and enrichment block schedule in grades one through five.
  • SB 185 grant provided after school/intersession tutoring for more than 60 students as well as a reading specialist teacher.
  • Three additional ESL teachers joined Duncan this year to provide a much greater level of support for our LEP population.
  • All kindergarten students are enrolled in full day programs.
  • Participation in the annual Run for Education earned Duncan $2,000 towards the purchase of physical education equipment.
  • Succeeded in the attainment of Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives with our LEP population for the second year in a row.
  • Safe Kids of Washoe County conducted a pedestrian safety program and a backpack was given to each student in the school.
  • First grade teacher Lori Urich received the A Day Made Better Award for her outstanding commitment to her students.
  • The 21st Century after school program provided academic support and structured activities for more than 120 students.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
All students will improve reading comprehension and fluency in a variety of text: fiction, non-fiction, and functional.

Objective(s):
1.  Reduce the number of non-proficient students in reading by10% as measured by the state CRT in grades three, four, and five. 2.  Increase the number of IEP students that are proficient in reading by 10% as measured by the state CRT in grades three, four, and five.

Goal 2
All students will improve writing proficiency.

Objective(s):
Increase the number of proficient students on the state writing assessment by 15%.

Goal 3
All students will improve math computation, operations, and problem solving skills.

Objective(s):
Reduce the number of non-proficient students in math by 10% as measured by the state CRT in grades three, four, and five.
