Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District sets out to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century.
 
Highlights
Elmcrest Elementary staff is proud of our accomplishments during 2010-2011. The Elmcrest staff continues to improve student achievement and to make Elmcrest welcoming and safe for all students.
  • Elmcrest was revitalized during the 2010 summer. All classrooms have new flooring, windows, furniture, and Promethean Boards.
  • 6th Grade student Ashutosh Bhattarai won the Martin Luther King Jr. Day essay contest for WCSD.
  • Partner in Education Grant Thornton LLP provided each student a school shirt and gifts for Christmas.
  • The Daily Five structure for literacy instruction was implemented by 85% of our teaching staff.
  • The Measure of Academic Progress assessment was utilized and the number of proficient students increased each administration.
  • Elmcrest hosted executives from Umpqua Bank and Microsoft as part of the Principal for a Day activities.
  • Staff continued to refine the Response to Intervention process increasing student achievement.
  • Elmcrest became a Title I school for the first time, receiving additional financial aide for instructional support.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Elmcrest students will meet their WCSD Pathway Performance Targets for ELA on Nevada CRT’s.

Objective(s):
CRT scores will increase on 3rd grade reading from 46% to 51% and all groups will demonstrate a 6% gain in the “at or above” proficiency level. 5th grade reading will increase from 44% to 48% and all groups will demonstrate a 6% gain. 4th and 6th grade will demonstrate a 2% gain.

Goal 2
Elmcrest students will meet their WCSD Pathway Performance Targets for Math on Nevada CRT’s.

Objective(s):
CRT scores will increase on 3rd grade math from 66% to 68% and all groups will demonstrate a 4% gain in the “at or above” proficiency level. 5th grade math will increase from 60% to 62% and all groups will demonstrate a 4% gain. Students in 4th and 6th grade will demonstrate a 2% gain.

Goal 3
Elmcrest Elementary 5th grade students will meet their WCSD Pathway Performance Targets for Writing.

Objective(s):
Writing scores will increase on the 5th grade writing exam from 37% to 41% and all sub populations will demonstrate a 6% gain in the “at or above proficiency” level. All students will score at a least a 3 on grade level writing rubrics.
