Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Elmcrest Elementary staff is proud of our accomplishments during 2008-2009.  The Elmcrest family continues to work to improve our school in all areas, from the physical plant to student achievement.
  • We have numerous Read To Succeed Volunteers working with our students this year.
  • City National Bank donated a book each student at Elmcrest.
  • Elmcrest received SB 404 money which provided an Instructional Coach and a Literacy Coordinator.
  • Elmcrest partnered with the Kiwanis to start the BUG Club to recognize students for improving grades.
  • Reading week provided students numerous activities including listening to guest readers and an assembly by an author.
  • Elmcrest continued an after-school tutoring program through a grant from the Washoe County Education Foundation.
  • Eight Elmcrest teachers received grants from the Assistance League totaling over $2,000.
  • One of our ESL teachers, Mrs. Dee Lafleur received a grant from Make a Wish for $2,500 for technology.
  • The Elmcrest PFA planted 12 trees and installed a sculpture as part of the school beautification project.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Raise student achievement in ELA for all students, especially our FRL students.

Objective(s):
We will increase the number of students proficient school wide and in each sub group in ELA by decreasing the number of non-proficient students by minimum of 10%, as measured by the State CRTs and Writing exams in spring 2009.

Goal 2
Raise student achievement in math for all students, especially our FRL students.

Objective(s):
We will increase the number of students proficient school wide and in each sub group in Math by decreasing the number of non-proficient students by minimum of 10%, as measured by the State CRTs in spring 2009.
