Mission Statement
The Washoe County School District provides each student the opportunity to achieve his or her potential through a superior education in a safe and challenging environment in order to develop responsible and productive citizens for our diverse and rapidly changing community.
 
Highlights
Echo Loder Elementary is a neighborhood walking school whose main focus is on instruction to improve student achievement.
  • Echo Loder implemented an extended day schedule that allocated time for teachers to meet in grade levels every week.
  • Teachers were trained in the utilization of MAPS curriculum based measures in reading, math, and writing.
  • Students participated in the Meridian Gold Run and Rockn' River race in an effort to complete 26 total miles of running.
  • 21st Century and S.E.S. continued to provide after-school and intersession assistance for over 120 students.
  • Karen Sumersille, a third grade teacher, was honored by Office Max for her dedication and passion to education.
  • The school implemented Positive Behavior Supports to help ensure daily behavior success in all settings.
  • Teachers continued to work in PLC’s to review assessments, analyze student progress and adjust instruction.
  • Students continued to receive individualized instruction through our Walk to Read and math intervention programs.
  • We had an increase in parent involvement at our ESL classes, parenting classes, and gang informational classes.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
All students will increase in reading proficiency specifically in areas of vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.

Objective(s):
By the end of the 2008-2009 school year, our CRT reading proficiency rate will increase from 24% to 52% for third grade, from 23% to 52% for fourth grade, from 19% to 52% for fifth grade, and from 38% to 52% for sixth grade.

Goal 2
All students will increase in math proficiency specifically in computation, word problems, and spatial relationships.

Objective(s):
By the end of the 2008-2009 school year our CRT math proficiency rate will increase from 39% to 55% for third grade, from 24% to 55% for fourth grade, from 45% to 55% for fifth grade, and from 51% to 55% for sixth grade.

Goal 3
All students in the 5th grade will become more proficient in writing by the end of the 2008-2009 school year.

Objective(s):
Based on the 2007-2008 state Analytic Trait Writing Test for 5th grade, 25% of our students were proficient in writing.  The number of proficient students will increase to 45% on the 2008-2009 assessment for 5th grade.
